My Career Journey in Advertising Field as a Graphic Designer

                                       

A Short Story Behind My Career Journey

My name is Mahamudul Haque Kayes, I born in 1975 at Dhaka, Bangladesh. There was a story behind my career decision, here i am sharing... 

I was passing free time after complete my graduation,  one day i went a design house where my friend (Raju) was working as a graphics designer. In that office many young graphic designers were working, that I never seen before. It was amazing!  I have seen on their computer screen- photo, color and many design work, also there was hi-tech equipment like drum scanner, film output machine, plate making, and finally I have seen- how they are printing by auto offset printing machine. I really like this company and the job impressed me and I decided- Graphics Design would be my profession, and I started learning and got diploma certificate from a graphics institute.

My graphics design journey start from the year 1997. I got a job in this company name Color Scan Ltd., it was a high end graphics design and printing solution company. I was working as a graphics designer, during my job I did various type of design like Letterhead, Business Card, Packaging, Leaflet, Poster, Sticker, Audio & CD Cover, Film poster, Banner, Annul Calendar and etc. about 3 years I worked with this company.




Advertising Agency Career

In the mean time, there was a first time job fair happening in Dhaka and I went with my friend and see there was only one advertising agency stall, name Adcomm Ltd. In their job board I saw my working experience was matching with their requirement and I submitted my CV and got a job as a visualizer in Adcomm Ltd. (unite B, affiliated with BETS World Wide). I was working as a visualizer than senior visualizer. During my job I worked for many local and multinational clients. Successfully I did many project as a team member like Pall Mall (tobacco brand) Launch Program, Star (cigarette brand) Semi Circle & QAC program and B&H campaign’s, Dove Hair Care Shampoo launch, Nutri-C, Igloo Ice Cream, also many kind of design materials like Newspaper Advertisement, Billboard Design, Shop Sign, etc.

My Boss (She is legendary advertising professional, name Fahima Choudhury Keya) was very happy about my job performance, and I selected to visit Asia Pacific Advertising Festival at 2005. 

After doing 7 years, one multinational advertising company name Ogilvy & Mather bought our company and we become employee of Ogilvy & Mather then continue 2 more years and learn many professional and important things for advertising like Brand Guideline, Template, Design Re-production/Adaptation, Design Consistency, Typography, Product Photography, Alignment, Design Philosophy/Rational, 360 Degree Brand Communication Strategy, etc.

Graphics Design and Image Editing Outsourcing Job

During my O&M job, I got a job offer from Vietnam and I went and did job for 1 year as a Studio Manager. There was language beerier and different culture for advertising communication, I was not feeling comfortable to work that situation. I came back.

After that, I got a job offer from a outsourcing company name Pixart (Image Editing Company), I join as a Art Director. After my join our company participates as exhibitor in SIM (Signage Imaging Marketing) exhibition at Dubai, I went Dubai to introduce our product and services. Then we got client from Australia, one was photographer another was sport magazine. After continue 2 years, our company could not survive then our mother company decided to close the company, even they invested lot. Again I was searching new opportunity…..

Creative work in fashion designing sector

Then I got a job offer from my friend’s company name Brand Root (Buying House). It was a kind of fashion designing work; I think it will be interesting portfolio for me.  Before I join they were struggling for photo printing on T-Shirt. 

Brand Root was biggest print based t-shirt exporter. I recruited by my friend (Asaduzzaman Talukder, one of the owner) urgently to solve the screen print problem, because screen print on t-shirt was not coming properly, so shipment was getting delay for print approval. I use my offset printing knowledge to screen-print. It worked! I solved print problem. And I got a post ‘Head of Creative’ at RND department. My main responsibility was- client provided artwork process for screen print. Innovate new formula in printing (technically and graphically), screen print quality assurance, and T-shirt print design as per client’s brief. I was closely worked with few clients, they were- Teranova, Pepe Jeans, La Halle, Jeans Fritz, Crop, Reserved, KTM, Bel & Bo, Jack & Jones and etc.

Beside this job, I got new responsibility to create a ladies bag brand for Bangladeshi market. And I successfully develop bag brand name ‘La Bonita’ and finally I operate the full business. I work total 3 years with this company. 

Digital Marketing Field

Now a day’s all advertising and communication going through social media and other online sites. Now I am developing my digital marketing skill by doing overseas and local training. I hope with in very short time, I will be able to handle client by giving my online based Graphics Design service.
